Flag of South America
Most of the flags of South American countries have a common meaning. This is because, as we shall see later, many of the existing sovereign states shared throughout its history a series of events and political ties that had united in their struggle for emancipation for Spain and Portugal. Broadly speaking, the Sun of May Argentine and Uruguayan independence symbolizes their cause, while the flags of Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela represent what was once known as Gran Colombia, an organization comprising geopolitics to the three countries and that disintegrate later maintaining patriotic symbols in their respective colors of the old union.
